Size Really Does Matter
Thermoelectrics (TE) is a technology whereby electricity can be converted into a temperature gradient and vice-versa.
Ideal for cooling small areas and for exacting temperature control of small objects, when used in reverse, thermoelectrics can generate power by converting thermal energy into an electrical current.
Benefits of Thermoelectric Devices
- Environmentally friendly
- Solid state
- Long lasting
- Compact
- Silent
Though the benefits were enticing and the implications exciting, the use of thermoelectric devices remained limited because they simply weren't efficient.
Historically, this low conversion efficiency resulted in use of TE technology by only niche applications (i.e. cooling sensitive photodetectors or integrated circuits, in power systems for deep space probes, and small portable coolers).
In the early 2000s, after decades of research on the potential of semiconductors in TE, the scientific community turned its focus to nanotechnology as a means of increasing efficiency. The tech world was abuzz with the potential of nanomaterials as applied to TE and we, here at Evident Technologies, took this as our call of duty.
Thus began our mission to awaken untapped thermoelectric possibilities.
Using nano-sized semiconductors as the building blocks for TE elements, we have created the freedom to "tune" thermal, electrical, and inherent temperature-dependent mobility to fit the application. These new freedoms can make for unique nanocomposites with never-before-seen TE properties.
At Evident, we use inorganic surface ligands to create the nanostructure, avoiding the pitfalls that have plagued nano TE research over the last few years. Our nanostructures have improved electrical conductivity, thus increasing the benefits of the material.
The result
Evident has the key technology we feel will finally enable TE to reach its full market potential!
